The Poor “End of Year Bash”
Get ready for an all-out assault of rock as The Poor return home to end 2024 with a bang! After tearing up stages across Australia and smashing through a killer tour of Japan, our boys are back on the Gold Coast to deliver the ultimate homecoming show. Join them at Mo's on December 13th for a raw, hard-hitting night of pure rock 'n' roll chaos. Backing up Thepoorau is the reloaded Derail , a beast of a band with a brand-new lineup. Derail is a collaboration of heavy hitters including Jan Nicholas Blom on vocals (previously of Incyde, Silencio), Kurt Winter smashing the drums (Silencio), Dillenger Escape Brann shredding on guitar (Silencio), Adam Burnell on guitar, and Stewart Williams himself (known from Tower, Black Seed, Lump, Electric Horse). They're ready to unleash pure, aggressive energy and take no prisoners. Also on the bill are The Whiskeys, a heavy blues/rock explosion that hits like a freight train. This two-piece local favourite has been setting the Gold Coast ablaze with their gritty, raw performances. Expect nothing less than high-octane riffs and bone-shaking rhythms. This isn't just a gig, it's an all-out rock experience. with The Poor, Derail, and The Whiskeys coming together to make sure the Gold Coast ends the year the only way it should... Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award 2024Celebrate the best of contemporary Australian photography at HOTA Gallery. The Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award 2024 presents a diverse selection of artworks by artists at the forefront of photographic media. As a survey of contemporary practice, the award plays an important role in representing the ongoing evolution of photography and the ways in which artists use it to create striking and memorable images. As the richest prize for photography in Queensland, the $25,000 acquisitive award is open to all Australian artists working in the broad medium of contemporary photography. Visitors to the exhibition will decide the $5,000 People’s Choice Award voting for their favourite artwork. Since the Award’s inception, over 60 works have been acquired by HOTA, resulting in a celebrated collection that reflects shifts in the cultural and social landscape over two decades. Previous winners include wani toaishara, Tamara Dean, Shaun Gladwell, Darren Sylvester, Lynne Roberts-Goodwin, Polixeni Papapetrou, Polly Borland and Cherine Fahd.
