Here and Now: Gold Coast Triennial | Cocktails with CuratorsHere and Now: Gold Coast Triennial features ambitious bodies of work from six artists, representing an exciting snapshot of local practitioners. These six artists: Jay Jermyn, Kathy Mackey, Larissa Warren, Lyle Duncan, Norton Fredericks and Rebecca Ross, have contemporary art practices that are both local and global in ideas and execution, showcasing the richness and diversity of artists living and working across the region. For each Cocktails with Curators session you will join an intimate group on an exclusive tour of the exhibition, led by a HOTA Curator. At the conclusion of the tour you’ll continue your conversation with an exhibition-inspired cocktail at the Exhibitionist Bar. Each session will focus on one of the featured artists, please note that the artist won’t be present.

Artist Panel featuring Christine Willcocks, Emma Walker and Michael CusackJoin us for a morning of art and conversation! Susi Muddiman OAM, Director of HOTA Gallery, will personally lead a tour through HOTA Collects: Direction, currently showing in Gallery 2. You will then proceed upstairs to Level 5 to hear from an Artist Panel consisting of Christine Willcocks, Emma Walker and Michael Cusack, all based in the beautiful Northern Rivers of New South Wales. Christine’s etching Kangaroo Paw – Anigozanthos Manglesii, 1999 and Emma’s painting Walk the Line, 2013 are included in Direction. One of Michael’s paintings will soon be joining the HOTA Gallery Collection. Tea and coffee will be provided.

October ArtLab | Children’s Clay Experience with Larissa WarrenWhat is clay? How did it get here? Where do we find it? Ceramic artist Larissa Warren, one of the six commissioned artists in Here and Now: Gold Coast Triennial, leads this very special hands-on ArtLab!Recommended ages: 6-16 years. Part 1: Demonstration Larissa will share how she processes the Gold Coast clays she uses in her art-making process and identify how local clays differ in colour, texture, organic composition and plasticity, from natural through to finished state. Part 2: Making We will then make pinch pots, coils and other mini sculptures using commercially available clays. We will contribute our created objects to a real-time raw clay installation on the Studio Terrace. Our collective raw clay installation will be left to naturally break down in the environment and return to the earth. NB. We strongly encourage attendees to wear clothes they can get dirty in and/or bring a change of clothes! Children under 11 years old must be accompanied by an adult or carer and cannot be left unsupervised at any time, thank you for your understanding. Adults don’t need to purchase a ticket as you are attending in a supervisory capacity.

Salsa in the Park
Salsa in the Park is an event open to everyone and it is free. It is held at The Porch in Broadwater Parklands, Southport. DJs will play a variety of latin music to keep everyone dancing. There will be a free dancing lesson, followed by two and a half hours of social dancing dancing, or sit, relax, watch and enjoy the music and dancers go about their pace.

Following lunch, head over to HOTA Gallery for informative talks and tours led by educators, centred around the ongoing exhibition program and works from the HOTA Collection. Experience an immersive educational journey, unlocking the wonders of the arts and the behind-the-scenes magic. Suitable for grade 3 to 12 and all arts subjects. Once you've booked, our team will work with you to tailor the tour to your subject areas. Places are limited.
