The Tamborine

Boutique hotel The Tamborine is literally a breath of fresh air. Perched on the edge of an escarpment in the lush Hinterland, the spectacular views, serene rainforest surrounds and elevated communal spaces here are designed for slow, intentional stays.

Originally built in 1978 the hacienda-style motel got a major glow-up when it re-opened in 2024. Rooms are fitted out in sleek Scandi style - pale wood, clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic. Each of the 23 rooms has a private balcony or terrace, all overlooking the scenic vista of valleys, trees and the wide open sky.

While the rooms provide a restful retreat, the shared spaces at The Tamborine elevate the experience for guests. The pristine heated mineral pool and spa are set to just the right temperature year round. A few hours stretched out on a sunlounge here is time well spent. Guests are invited to the central hub/ reception for complimentary drinks each evening and a delicious continental breakfast is included with your stay. The communal firepit on the grassy terrace, framed by graceful gum trees is the ideal place for a morning coffee or an evening vino. If you’re lucky, one of the resident peacocks will fan their feathers and give you a show.

While there’s no restaurant on site, there are plenty of dining options close by including St Bernard’s Hotel right next door. The Tamborine also collaborates with local producers, suppliers and artisans so guests can enjoy special offers and discounts during their stay.

For unique and utterly charming accommodation, put Tamborine Mountain Flower Farm at the top of your list. Set amongst five acres of lovingly tended gardens and flower fields, this family run flower farm is private, peaceful and breathtakingly pretty.

As a guest, you get exclusive access to explore the gardens and flower fields - cue whimsical walks through a stunning variety of blooms and scenic gardens. And while the photo opportunities are endless, it’s worth switching your phone off for a while and just soaking up the serenity. It’s a natural reset for your nervous system and no matter what time of year you stay, there are flowers blooming throughout the seasons.

Onsite accommodation consists of two modern self-contained cabins with a small kitchen, air-con, wifi and ensuite bathroom. They’re clean, comfortable and beautifully styled with attentive touches like cut flowers beside the bed, quality linens and lush bathroom products. The patio overlooks the stunning surrounds and on cool evenings, a fire pit under the stars makes for a magical experience.

Travel writer, Kate Veling, came to the Gold Coast for six months and loved it so much she’s still here 20 years later. The laidback lifestyle suits her to a tee and as a mum of three, she knows all the best parks, swimming spots and kid-friendly fun to be had in her ‘hood. She’s often found getting amongst the thriving local arts and culture scene, dancing to live music or kicking back on the beach, but rest assured it’s all in the name of research.
