Summary

River House is a waterfront restaurant on the Nerang River at Southport on the Gold Coast, set across three candlelit levels above the water. The kitchen cooks flavours that wander from Europe to Asia and settle in Queensland, from a crudo of Tasmanian salmon and Hiromasa kingfish to grilled Moreton Bay bug and Bangalow pork, with tiger prawns flambéed with cognac at the table. On Saturday and Sunday mornings the riverside deck turns to breakfast and brunch, and River House Markets bring fresh flowers and trinkets to the deck. A relaxed afternoon deck menu bridges lunch and dinner on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday, and on Monday nights guests can bring their own bottle to enjoy with the full menu. Through the River House Art Series, local Australian artists hang their work on the walls for six to eight weeks. River House takes no commission, so all proceeds go to the artist, and each artist hosts a dinner at the house to talk about their work. River House has its own pontoon, so guests can arrive by boat, and the top of the house hosts weddings, wine dinners and private celebrations with the city skyline as the backdrop.
