8 Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurants on the Gold Coast

23 May 2023

Eating clean, green and plant-based food on the Gold Coast is easy as vegetable pie. With a slew of vegan and vegetarian restaurants serving up everything from delectable Asian dishes to nutritious super salads and incredible vegan baked goods, our plant-based friends will be very well fed. Here are eight of our favourite vegan and vegetarian restaurants on the Gold Coast. Bon Appetit!

1. Dalas Kitchen

Health-packed salads, homemade soda syrups topped with sparkling mineral water and a selection of sweet raw treats, seven days a week. Pop into Dalas Kitchen at either Nobby Beach or Palm Beach and find out what all the fuss is about. These guys have a cult-like following due to their amazing menu selection! We love their take on a Mexican salad with roasted sweet potato, red capsicum, black beans, white beans, chargrilled corn, coriander and a creamy citrus dressing. It’s hard to go past their ‘So Sataysfying’ salad bowl combo with raw broccoli, carrots, sweet potato, edamame, spinach, peanuts, brown rice, sesame seeds, fresh chilli and satay dressing too. Time poor? Order online and pick it up in-store or get UberEATS to bring it right to you.
Where: 2247 Gold Coast Hwy, Nobby Beach and 5th Ave, Palm Beach.

2. Hidden Cherub

Another vegan gem in Burleigh Heads, Hidden Cherub is a warehouse-style restaurant/ bar offering naughty plant-based eats and crafted cocktails. The majority of the menu leans towards Californian and fresh Mexican-inspired meals and the portion sizes are generous. The plant-based taco selection is epic! Sames goes for the big plant-based burgers - be sure to try their fried chicken and smoky BBQ sauce on a yummy bun at least once. Hidden Cherub is an excellent Gold Coast vegan restaurant to visit with a group of friends seeking tasty plant-based eats in a cool, casual setting. Follow their socials to keep up to date with upcoming venue events such as DJ sets etc.
Where: 2/29 Lemana Lane, Burleigh Heads

3. Govinda’s

Govinda’s is a Gold Coast institution when it comes to vegetarian and vegan eating. There are two locations, Burleigh Heads and Coolangatta. Everything on the menu is cooked daily, made with lots of love and where possible, includes organic ingredients from their farm in nearby Murwillumbah. The combo choices (three sizes available, eat in or take away) feature an array of excellent dishes such as veggie curry, creamy potato bake, dahl soup, cauliflower pakoras, avocado and roast pumpkin salad, tofu and sesame salad, pesto pasta, and a zesty greek salad. Govinda’s is famous for their tasty kofta balls and has standalone menu items too - their meatless lasagne and spinach and feta filo definitely deserve a spot in your serve.
Where: Shop 1/20 James St, Burleigh and 72 Griffith St, Coolangatta

4. Flour of Life

A vegan bakery in Helensvale that caters to ethical eating devotees? Yes, please! Meet Flour of Life where many of your sweet treat childhood favourites have been converted to the vegan version. Snackable stalwarts like cream doughnuts, lamingtons and the classic custard tart are regular crowd favourites and there’s a good selection of savoury pies (regular and family-sized), tarts and sandwiches good to go too. Ain’t no bones about it (pun intended), this Gold Coast award-winning plant-based bakery definitely deserves your attention.
Where: 22 Signato Dr, Helensvale

5. Easy House Vegetarian Restaurant

This place is the ‘must go’ café for delectable vegan yum cha and authentic Asian vegetarian dishes on the Gold Coast. Located in Mermaid Waters, people drive from all over just to get a table here! The plant-based substitutes used to mimic classic Asian dishes such as pork buns, prawn wontons, chicken skewers and XO noodles are incredible. Easy House is BYO and affordable. As for your meat-eating mates, why not bring them along too, this is the kind of vegan food that could easily convert a committed carnivore to the green side of life.
Where: 90 Markeri St, Mermaid Waters

6. Greenhouse Canteen

Pioneers of clean cuisine, the team at Greenhouse Canteen knows how to prepare delicious vegan dishes that get people talking (in-between mouthfuls of nutritious flavour combinations that is). Located in Miami, the Greenhouse Canteen is by far one of the Gold Coast’s best vegan eats to hit up for a memorable dinner feed. Their chickpea fettuccine, jackfruit enchiladas, and the fantastic mushroom burger are notable menu inclusions but be warned, you may develop a healthy obsession with all their offerings. Tip: don’t miss the cauliflower wings and Korean rice cakes for starters either.
Where: 1916 Gold Coast Hwy, Miami

7. Cardamom Pod

You are what you eat and it’s clear that the Cardamon Pod restaurant believes you can eat your way to a better world. Another maxim they embody is ‘let food be thy medicine and let medicine be thy food’. Translation? Healthy cooking, prepared with good intentions can only work out well for body and soul. This popular clean-eating establishment on the Gold Coast always delivers the goods with its Indian-inspired fare. Swing by to enjoy their all-day menu anytime from 8 am to 2:30 pm. Restaurant devotees claim the Buddha Bowl to be the best on the coast! Meanwhile, their show-stopping super food burger, filled with a nutrient-dense patty (made with sprouted brown rice, kumara, and activated almonds), vege mix, Swiss mushrooms, tahini, lettuce, confit tomato, avocado, gherkins, truffle aioli and served with a side of panko crusted cheesy potato balls is an absolute winner.
Where: 3/3 Brolga Ave, Southport

8. Goodness Gracias

Good news for vegetarians who love Mexican – there’s more on the menu for you at Goodness Gracias than refried beans. Their amazing Mexican street food take away offers a mouth-watering selection of burritos, zesty salads and nourishing grain bowls. We can’t go past the smoky chipotle jackfruit taco– heavenly! Goodness Gracias also serve fresh juice and coffee, and they’re licensed too which means you can enjoy a Mexican beer or margarita with your meal.
Where: 1114 Gold Coast Hwy, Palm Beach
