In today’s fast-paced, digital reliant world comes less time (for most) to truly stop and smell the roses.
We recommend taking a conscious time out to experience a luxury treetop escape where you and your loved one can rest, relax and reconnect. Treating your special someone can however take some planning, so grab a pen and follow our lead to inspire your next fun and totally romantic Gold Coast hinterland escape.
Here’s what you can do to ensure your date goes according to plan…
TAKE YOUR LOVE SKY HIGH
Looking to really wow your significant other? For an experience that’s certain to take your love to new heights, opt to explore the magnificent sights of the Gold Coast from above with Gold Coast Helitours.
In what feels like true James Bond style, your journey in making your way to board the aircraft to your actual journey in the air will be equally as thrilling… cue Marina Mirage. After walking down the Marina ‘runway’ (of Marina’s Cove on Seaworld Drive) in Main Beach taking in the view of superyachts along the way, you’ll be welcomed by the Helitours charter team on the company’s private heliport. From here you’ll be strapped in and whisked up in the air by an experienced pilot for a tour like no other.
With a range of scenic tours and flight durations on offer from 5minutes to 45minutes, you’ll travel in both comfort and style to see iconic city sights including the Surfers Paradise CBD and Q1 – Australia’s largest residential building – to the aqua blue waters of the Broadwater and The Spit at the Seaway in the north, to vistas of the Coast’s picturesque hinterland in the west. Not to mention the breathtaking coastline – all the way to its most southern point near the NSW border, at Coolangatta. With photo ops aplenty, you’re welcome to take your own snaps or take advantage of an obligatory souvenir photo (pilot and all).
CHASE WATERFALLS
If you’re on our wavelength then there’s nothing more romantic than committing to a digital detox and heading for the hills with your sweetheart. If that too sounds like your perfect idea for an extended romantic getaway, jump in the car (or book a heli transfer for an extra special experience!) and follow the road to Lamington National Park.
At an hour and 30-minutes from Surfers Paradise, take it slow and enjoy the lush, natural scenes from out the car window as you make your way to your first stop in the World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforest, Morans Falls.
Nothing short of amazing, the rather easy 4.6km stroll from the entrance of the track (about 1km before you reach the O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat carpark) will take you to a lookout with striking views of Morans Falls and the wider Morans Creek gorge. Depending on the time of year and rainfall, witness the falls in full flow to the valley floor 80-metres below after a downpour (typically in the summer), or a calmer, more composed drizzle in the drier months. It’s the perfect spot to admire the sunshine over the mountains and enjoy your morning coffee – BYO thermos and picnic rug.
INDULGE IN WORLD-CLASS DINING AT A SECLUDED RETREAT
For a private sanctuary overnight stay paired with an award-winning dining experience off the beaten track, be sure to make Songbirds Rainforest Retreat the next stop on your date inspired list.
Open Thursdays through to Saturdays, serving lunch and dinner (and also Sunday lunch) dine Michelin style at the property’s beautifully refurbished Songbirds Restaurant for French-inspired cuisine. Here you can opt for the acclaimed 6-course degustation with matching wines or pick and choose off the à la carte menu – reservations required.
Heading back towards the shores of Surfers Paradise, this boutique rainforest bungalow accommodation set on a magnificent 51-acre paradise on Tamborine Mountain is one (we guarantee) you’ll be talking about long after you return home.
Treat you and your loved one to a massage or beauty treatment, enjoy a pre-dinner drink in the double spa bath at your villa or go exploring on foot through the tranquil shaded rainforest and soak up the fresh mountain air.
We’ll see you soon!
