Almost 700 delegates attended the Asian Control Conference (ASCC) on the Gold Coast in December 2017 at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The ASCC conference series is organised by the Asian Control Association and is recognised as the premier scientific event of the Asia-Pacific region aimed at advancing control systems theory and practice. It hosts control systems scientists, researchers, students and practitioners in exchanging their ideas and recent results.
According to Conference Chair, Professor Ljubo Vlacic, the conference was one of the most successful on record for the association.
“It attracted participants not only from the Asia-Pacific region but also from Belgium, Canada, Chile, France, Germany, Israel, Kuwait, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, South Africa, UAE, UK and USA. It is obvious that a choice of the City of Gold Coast as the conference destination certainly enriched the demography of the conference participants.”
With a diverse academic program of eminent speakers, the program combined plenary sessions with a comprehensive concurrent program of workshops.
Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre was an ideal venue for the conference, located within walking distance to accommodation, the beach and the chic Broadbeach precinct bustling with restaurants and cafes.
“The flexibility of the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre’s floor space let us host the Australian & New Zealand Control Conference 2017 (ANZCC 2017) simultaneously with ASCC 2017 and thus nurture interaction and synergy between the two conference series for the very first time since their inceptions,” Professor Vlacic said.
Delegates enjoyed a number of receptions and events onsite at Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, savouring the local and international cuisine the venue has become renowned for offering conference groups.
The conference banquet provided an opportunity for delegates to explore more of the Gold Coast with an offsite dinner at Australian Outback Spectacular. The venue offered an insight into life in the Australian outback with a live show featuring inspiring stories of Australian characters on horseback.
Professor Vlacic said the destination offered an added incentive for delegates, with a positive response received from delegates in post conference surveys.
The Gold Coast offers something unique to international delegates. It has professional venues and a wide variety of accommodation available but is within walking distance to a superb coastline, with beautiful beaches just a block away.
The city is easily accessible and compact enabling delegates to readily experience the Australian lifestyle. The Gold Coast has also gained a reputation internationally for world class hospitality, with delegates always commenting on the warm welcome they receive from locals.”
Control system scientists and engineers are behind many innovations from medicine to robotics, automation, driverless vehicles, food, energy, defence, aviation and space industries.
