Imagine a space devoted to the brightest ideas in medical science

Excelling in Medical Innovation

The Gold Coast is a major centre of excellence in Australia and globally for innovation in health and medical science.

The City of Gold Coast is so committed to this mission that it has collaborated with a range of stakeholders to create the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct.

On the Gold Coast – in this place of extraordinary natural beauty, the brilliant imagination of people working in health and medical science is flourishing.

And the results are changing lives. Right now.

Together doctors and health scientists, engineers and researchers, investors and start-up entrepreneurs are working together to achieve a better world through medical science.

Their breathtaking discoveries and technology are changing the way doctors and health professionals respond to emergencies, diagnose and treat diseases, rehabilitate after surgery and accidents – or drive elite human performance.

Imagine bringing your medical congresses or corporate events and incentives to this environment.

The Health and Knowledge Precinct includes Griffith University, ranked in the top two percent of universities worldwide, the Gold Coast University Hospital, a major Australian teaching hospital, and the Gold Coast Private Hospital.

It also includes Lumina, a 9.5 hectare site designated for start-ups and established business that are nurturing bright ideas and collaborations.

More than 1,000 researchers and 700 research students, and internationally recognised clinicians, researchers and global companies work in the precinct. The Institute for Glycomics and the Menzies Health Institute Queensland is also located here.

Among the brilliant innovators are Dr Hal Rice, Dr Laetitia de Villiers and Dr Dinesh Palipana OAM. With their teams, they are changing lives in so many positive ways with ground-breaking discoveries.

Dr Palipana was inspired to pursue medicine following a spinal injury. And now he is on the way to a major breakthrough in developing new rehabilitation techniques for people with spinal cord injuries.

Dr Hal Rice and Dr Laetitia de Villiers, two illustrious leaders in neuroradiology have brought global best practice to the Gold Coast. The two played important roles in the Gold Coast hosting the 13th World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (WFITN) in November 2015.

Dr Rice could have worked anywhere in the world but chose the Gold Coast for his extraordinary work and extensive network of radiology clinics.

Another Gold Coast advocate is Dr. Chris Davis, General Manager of the Institute for Glycomics at Griffith University.

“We’ve got great science, outstanding clinical expertise, and all the facilities and resources to keep nurturing entrepreneurship,” he said.

Imagine bringing your people to this destination that is driving so much innovation.
